It was cloudy out. Overcast hanging like dull curtains, shrouding the sun from view, casting the world in grey scale. The fields of grass were alive, but barely. Struggling to lift their heads towards the hidden sky was a struggle for the grass and plants. A struggle most of them were losing. The goalposts were rusted and the paint chipped and peeling. The posts were sagging, tilted. The holes in the nets were rather large. Surely a soccer ball would be lost through them? Or at least, it seemed that way in the gloom. Nate leaned back on the bleachers, the cold metal digging into his shoulders and freezing his skin through his clothes. In his hand he held a small black bar, which, if need be, could unfold into his trusting sword. He tapped at the seat in front of his with his booted toe, waiting. Glancing over his shoulder. Tap tap tap.
"Stop that."
Nate looked back down. A small child, very similar to him in looks, gazed up at him. "It's annoying. And you're bothering Krowly." The boy, Rue, had the same emerald green eyes, the same black hair. Despite being a tender seven years old, he held himself in such a way that it was obvious he was far older than the small body let one to believe.
"Sorry." Nate stilled his foot, and glanced over at the field.  Krowley, another child, played in the field, kicking around a ball. He moved quickly, pouncing on it before rolling away and kicking it, disregarding all rules to the true game. What was this but a game for one, made by the one playing it? Whenever Krowley slowed or stopped, he would scrutinize his surroundings carefully, turning in a slow circle, taking in everything. The fence, the bushes, the trees. Krowly would shiver, though no breeze drifted through the field. He would shudder, and chew on his bottom lip before returning to the ball and his make believe game.
After a while, he became bored and abandoned the ball for Nate and Rue's somewhat comforting presence. "When's she gonna get here?" Krowly demanded.
"Soon," Nate said, leaning forward to ruffled Krowly's head, despite the hat hiding his hair... and two tiny horns that sprouted from his forehead. "We just have to be a bit patient."
"You said that forever ago!" Krowly growled, clambering up the bleachers, and then Nate's shoulders, holding onto the teenager's hair as he braced himself against his shoulder blades. "I don't want that hunter to get here."
"He's not going to hurt you, Krow. He's going to hurt no one." With a supporting hand, Nate made sure Krowly didn't slip or fall off his shoulders. "If push comes to shove, we have someone who can help us out."
"You are thinking of Koth," Rue stated blandly, staring forward silently, hands in his lap. His shoulders were squared, and his body rigid. Nate wondered if that little shudder he saw race through the boy's body was his imagination or not.
"Yeah," he answered. "I am."
"Won't that make things more difficult?" Krowly said, bending backwards and pulling on Nate's hair. "He's darkness born! The hunter'll get mad at us if we're with him."
"He'll also go after Koth and leave us alone." Nate grabbed Krowly's wrists and pulled him off his shoulders. "Calm down, Krow. You're being a pest."
"Can't help it!"
"Where's Natalia?"
Rue's voice was quiet, but it rang out like a gong. The young boys' magic-inclined sister was nowhere in sight. Nate sprang to his feet, drawing his sword. Krowly leapt off the bleachers, screaming her name in vain. Rue stood slowly, pulling a knife from his pocket.
"He has her."
:) This time, it was supposed to be at least two characters in a setting that we knew when we were young, yet they were uncomfortable there.

I loved playing soccer, so I chose the soccer fields there.
Does it count since all characters are technically Aru? *shot*
